What are the Symptoms of Vaginitis?

  Vaginitis is a name for itching, burning, swelling or infection in the vagina that can be caused by several different germs. The most common kinds are bacterial vaginosis (BV) and yeast, a fungus. Sometimes trichomoniasis is called vaginitis too. If you are like most women, you will have some kind of vaginitis at least once in your life.

Symptoms of Vaginitis

   Having a sexually transmitted infection

   Medications, such as steroids

   Use of spermicides for birth control

   Using hygiene products such as bubble bath, vaginal spray or vaginal deodorant


   Wearing damp or tightfitting clothing

   Using an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control

  In pregnant women, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis have been associated with premature deliveries and low birth weight babies.
