Penile warts are the most common sexually transmitted disease in males and are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). It's typically present as soft flesh-colored to brown papules or plaques on the penile shaft and glans penis.

Symptoms of Penile Warts

Although warts on the penis are painless, they may be bothersome because of their location, size, or due to itching. In men, it can infect the urethra, penis, scrotum, and rectal area.

  Symptoms of penile warts include:

Warts can appear as soft, raised masses with a surface that can be smooth on the penile shaft or rough with several fingers-like anal warts.

Others might appear as pearly, cauliflower-like, or rough with a slightly dark surface. Most lesions are raised, but some might be flat with only slight elevation above the skin surface.

Lesions may be hidden by hair or in the inner aspect of the uncircumcised foreskin in men.

Small, flesh-colored or gray swellings in your genital area

Itching or discomfort in your genital area

They may appear as a bump or group of bumps in the area surrounding the penis, anus, or genitals. These warts don’t frequently hurt but can be unsightly.

How Do Warts Occur?

Warts are caused by a virus, and the virus that causes penile warts is called Human Papillomavirus (HPV). There are many types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the ones that most often cause genital warts are called HPV-6 and HPV-11. These are more contagious and spreads easier than other kinds of warts, spreading through skin-to-skin contact. It may spread to other nearby parts of the body and may be passed from person to person by sexual activity.

Penile warts are usually first seen 1 to 6 months after you have been infected with Human Papillomavirus (HPV); however, you can be infected without even having any visible warts.
